EUR to AUD — compare your quote with the mid-market rate
Euro → Australian Dollar
EUR → AUD carries steady Europe-to-Australia migration, tuition, and trade flows. The mid is liquid in European and Asian hours; most of what you're charged on a retail conversion is provider margin, not market movement.
About the EUR/AUD pair
This page shows today’s wholesale EUR/AUD mid-market rate beside the rate a bank, broker, or kiosk has quoted you. The result is the gap between the two, as a percentage and an amount, in four tiers: under 0.3%, 0.3–1%, 1–3% and over 3% of the amount. The mid-market rate is the rate banks trade at, not a rate you can transact at directly — providers add their margin on top, and that margin is the gap RateCheck shows.
Who sends money on this route
Euros go to Australian dollars for Europeans on working-holiday visas and for those who have emigrated to Australia and bring savings across, for euro-area parents funding students at Australian universities, and for retirees moving European pensions.
Euro-area companies pay Australian subsidiaries, staff and mining-services suppliers, and tourism from Germany, France and Italy to Australia adds seasonal flows.
What moves EUR/AUD
The European Central Bank and the Reserve Bank of Australia set the policy rates. The euro reflects inflation and growth across a large, mostly service-based economy; the Australian dollar reflects commodity prices, Chinese demand and RBA policy.
Euro-area flash inflation, the purchasing managers' surveys and each ECB decision matter on one side. Australia's quarterly consumer price index, its labour force survey and each RBA decision matter on the other.
EUR/AUD is risk-sensitive through the Australian leg: the pair tends to rise when global markets are nervous and fall when they are calm.
How to read a quote
EUR/AUD is quoted as Australian dollars per euro, a figure above one. When sending euros, a customer rate below the mid-market rate delivers fewer Australian dollars, and the gap is the provider's margin.
Retail bank margins on international transfers are commonly a few per cent; specialist providers are often under one per cent. The cross is priced through the US dollar in the wholesale market, which adds only a fraction of what a retail margin adds.
The RBA’s cash rate target, its next decision date and AUD/USD on recent decision days are on the RBA cash rate page.
